Recent Tastings: Highly Recommended

Every now and again we like to get a few bottles down from our storage at Vinothèque to remind ourselves about some of the wines we have offered in the past and of which we still have stock.  Sometimes once an offer is over and we move onto the next release, the next vintage, the next region, it is easy to forget the gems left behind.

The following four wines fit into that category; tasted by the sales team recently and available to buy online now:

2010 Sancerre Caillottes, Domaine François Cotat2010 Sancerre Caillottes, Domaine François Cotat
£180 per case of 12 bottles in bond (£20.17 per bottle duty paid)
By no means a “classically” styled Sancerre, this is tight, toned and austere in comparison, with almost an element of dry Loire Chenin to its structure. This is Sancerre designed for the long haul and will keep for 3-4 years, gaining complexity and character over that time. For now, there is a delicate white flower note to soft lemon fruit, overlaid with notes of crushed stones and peach kernel.

2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition, Domaine Giraud2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition, Domaine Giraud
£132 per case of 12 bottles in bond (£15.37 per bottle duty paid)
I think this is a real value buy. Boldly fruit-forward, with notes of cherry and wild thyme, this is a crowd pleasing Châteauneuf. The tannins are fine and ripe, melding into the fruit core and providing enough structure for this to pair well with food. Drinking beautifully now.

£177 per case of 12 bottles in bond  (£19.87 per bottle duty paid)
A personal favourite, this is compelling, delicious and incredibly moreish. Made from 100% Mourvèdre, it is certainly no shrinking-violet. The nature of the fruit is deep, dense and packed with juicy dark berry characters and a hint of spicy oak. The tannins are voluptuous, giving the wine a beautifully rounded mouthfeel. A real testament to the quality of great Mourvèdre.

Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos de Réas, Michel Gros2007 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos de Réas, Michel Gros
£244.38  per case of 6 bottles in bond (£51.04 per bottle duty paid)
We tasted a bottle of this while tasting M.Gros’ cellars in the autumn last year and were rather taken with its silky-fine tannins and fragrant red fruit. We still have a small volume available and can highly recommend it.
