Wine of the Day – 2008 Mâcon-Uchizy Les Maranches, Héritiers du Comte Lafon

Today’s wine of the day is from one of the most famous names in Burgundy, Comte Lafon, who have brought their vineyard management and winemaking know-how and talent to the Maconnais, producing excellent wines that punch far above their weight.
With a warmer and drier climate than the Côte d’Or, the Maconnais has a number of clear differences to its Northerly neighbour. Marked by interspersed parcels of vineyards on undulating limestone hills, it is typically considered a source for unpretentious, good value, drinking Burgundy. However, the arrival of renowned producers such as Leflaive and Lafon on the scene is a sign that this region can compete with its more illustrious neighbour when it comes to quality.
