Majestic Wine PLC – Preliminary results

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Majestic Wine Warehouses we are part of Majestic Wine PLC, which this morning published preliminary results for the year to the end of March 2011.

It’s now just over two years since Lay & Wheeler became part of Majestic, and a pretty exciting two years at that. Fine wine for immediate drinking is growing at an amazing rate in Majestic, while Lay & Wheeler provides wine for medium or long-term cellarage.

As Steve Lewis Chief Executive of Majestic said on the ‘Today’ program this morning, sales of 2009 Bordeaux represented a record sales period for us this time last year, while we are just getting into the major part of the 2010 campaign now. As Lay and Wheeler sells all the ‘en primeur’ for the group it was right to get a mention on a national station in such a successful context.

Definitely. As Majestic’s customer base grows so does ours, and the fine wine business definitely benefits from economies of scale
