Wine of the Day and Bordeaux 2010 release: Château Haut-Batailley

Our busiest day with Bordeaux releases so far almost eclipsed our wine of the day, which would have been a pity, as it is a really interesting example of just how far Southern France has come in the past 15 years. Lauded by many critics as one of the most interesting young wine regions in France, Costières de Nîmes provides a link between the Languedoc and the Provence regions. The best wines rival the best Southern Rhônes and the best Bandols, depending on their blend. La Bolida is one of the latter, a stunning wine made from 100% Mourvèdre with fabulous ageing potential.

2007 La Bolida, Costières de Nîmes, Château d’Or et de Gueules
£203 per case of 12 in bond (discounted from £225.00)

New Bordeaux release: Haut-Batailley

Another popular property from Pauillac, Château Haut-Batailley produced a stunner of a wine in 2010, and the combination of rich, juicy fruit character with a fresh elegance makes it easy to see the family resemblance with bigger sister Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste.

2010 Château Haut-Batailley, Cru Classé Pauillac
