Bordeaux 2010 New Releases: Doisy Daene and Sociando Mallet

The releases are beginning to come a little more regularly now, despite this being, according to Decanter, the slowest Bordeaux en primeur campaign ever.  Today has seen a few more wines that we thought were excellent release their prices, including Château Doisy-Daëne

2010 Château Doisy-Daëne, Cru Classé Barsac
£159 per case of 6 bottles in bond
£166.20
per case 12 half bottles in bond

One of the most impressive wines of the Sauternes tasting, Doisy-Daëne opens with a deceptively delicate, fresh nose of white flowers, almonds and a hint of citrus. On the palate it is surprisingly full-bodied, with a huge, oily texture dominated by lemon-curd and wild honey. The searing acidity does a great job of cutting through all this richness and this wine manages the difficult feat of seamlessly combining power with freshness and elegance: it really shows why Denis Dubourdieu has such a stellar reputation as a winemaking virtuoso.
Drink: 2015-2030

We have mentioned the quality of the Crus Bourgeois in this vintage many times, but Sociando-Mallet is a case in point, performing well above its level in 2010.

2010 Château Sociando-Mallet, Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc
£258 per case of 12 bottles in bond
“The classic 2010 displays everything one expects from this over-achieving Haut-Medoc. A dense purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries, black currants, graphite and crushed rocks, a layered, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning concentration and sweet, more polished and refined tannins than are normally found in barrel samples of Sociando Mallet.” 91-93 Points, Robert Parker.
Drink: 2015-2027
