We’ve arrived

After a bumpy flight to Lyon, we’ve arrived in Burgundy to find beautiful sunshine and the vineyards awash with gorgeous autumnal colours.

Today is a bank holiday in France but we’ve managed to visit two domaines to taste the 2009 vintage. The reds had lovely ripe tannins and the best showed real depth and drinkability at this early stage. As for the whites, these were rich, powerful and mineral; François Carillon said they were broad and approachable yet with good vineyard definition. He also gave us a sneak preview of the 2010 vintage from Domaine François Carillon, the first since the division of Domaine Louis Carillon.

All very encouraging and we have a busy day ahead of us tomorrow.
