2005 Ségla: Pedigree Bordeaux from a great vintage

Ségla is the second wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla, the renowned Margaux property that is currently owned by the Chanel fashion house. Under their ownership and the careful management of John Kolasa, former head of Château Latour and arguably the most prominent Briton working in Bordeaux, the property has enjoyed a great renaissance over the last decade.

2005 in Bordeaux was a vintage that can be described as truly great, with conditions as near perfect as is possible and the resulting wines of an almost-uniformly high quality. A classic example of text-book Margaux, 2005 Ségla is beginning to drink beautifully now and would be a perfect wine to enjoy this Christmas. However, it will also cellar well for those who wish to enjoy it at a more mature stage.

2005 Ségla, Margaux
£228 per case of 12 bottles in bond

A wine that shows its pedigree, this is attractive, with fragrant black berry fruit coming through on both the nose and palate. The tannins are silky-fine and ripe, lending a subtle structure. On the finish, there are smoky notes of cedar wood and spice, giving this a beguiling complexity. Harmonious and elegant, this is a truly beautiful example of Margaux from this most-impressive of vintages. Drink: Now-2016
