2009 Austrian Grüner Veltliner and Riesling

2009, according to the Austrian Wine Marketing Board, was an exceptional vintage and the latest in a long run of great vintages finishing in the number nine that stretches right back to 1959. While the weather was mixed and occasionally even extreme, causing low yields due to a combination of heavy rain, steep terraces and poor fruit set, it has produced stunning wines with effortless concentration and a wonderful balance of richness and verve.

Thankfully the Austrians have resisted the temptation to increase prices and this, coupled with a slightly improved Euro rate, means that we can offer these wines at slightly lower prices than the 2008s. We doubt we will be able to say the same when we begin selling 2009 Burgundy.

Regardless of the overall high standard of wines, we have remained selective and are offering only the best wines from three great estates. We cannot recommend them highly enough.
