2009 Bordeaux: Focus on La Croix de Beaucaillou

2009 La Croix de Beaucaillou is one of our must-buys of the vintage, offering excellent St-Julien style and tremendous value for money.

As the second wine of Ducru-Beaucaillou, La Croix de Beaucaillou is made with the same care and attention to detail as the Grand Vin. With fruit taken from the same vineyards and vinified under similar strict conditions, the differences between the Grand Vin and the second wine are less about quality and more about style.

The Ducru-Beaucaillou philosophy concerning the creation of La Croix de BEaucaillou is best summed up in their own words (taken from their website), “[It is] far superior to the connotation of a ‘second wine’. It is a great and noble wine, which we are sure will play a prominent role in the St-Julien appellation.”

La Croix de Beaucaillou is created to be consumed and enjoyed at a far earlier stage than the Grand Vin, while maintaining all the characteristics of great St-Julien: elegance, finesse and charm.

2009 La Croix de Beaucaillou, St-Julien
£297 per case of 12 bottles in bond
Very attractive and pure, perfumed, blueberry and blackcurrant nose, with creamy notes and a touch of graphite. On palate the fruit is pure and focused. The tannins are fine and accessible and the finish is fresh and of good fruit length. Gently expressed, very well balanced and representing a fabulous quality to price ratio.
Drinking: 2015-2023
Blend: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot
