Bordeaux 2009 Release: Cos D’Estournel

“The 2009 Cos d’Estournel is one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted…in the world!”  Thus was this wine described by the world’s most influential wine-writer, Robert Parker. Far from classic St-Estèphe in style, this is an enormously powerful and statuesque wine that balances unctuous fruit with enticing freshness.

 2009 Château Cos d’Estournel, Cru Classé St-Estèphe
£1200 per case of 6 bottles in bond
Always happy to make waves, Jean-Guillaume Prats has made no exception this year, producing a huge wine. An intense, savoury, almost meaty nose is evidence of the highly-toasted barrels used for early maturation of the wine. Just 56% of the Château’s total production went into the final blend, evidence of the strict attention to quality control. One for the long-term.
Drinking: 2018-2035
Robert Parker: 98-100 points (Wine Advocate 188)
