Bordeaux 2009 Releases: Haut-Bages-Libéral & Durfort-Vivens

The pace is now picking up in Bordeaux, with newly released wines selling out fast. If there are specific wines in which you are interested, we recommend that you register your interest  in those wines as soon as possible to ensure that we get the right information to you.

Two new releases

Château Durfort-Vivens is a second-growth, using an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon for a Margaux. In 2009 it represents over 70% of the blend and it is the extraordinary quality of the Cabernet that has allowed the wine to shine in this vintage.

Haut-Bages-Libéral greatly impressed us in this vintage and at just under £300 per case, does offer good value in this vintage.

2009 Château Durfort-Vivens, Cru Classé Margaux
£294 per case of 12 bottles in bond
The nose is heady and opulent and dominated by intense cassis fruit. Plenty of volume here, the fruit is super ripe, but not at all over done, and the tannins are integrated into the wine. This has some structure, but it is the fruit that makes this wine. The finish is long and it is only here the tannins finally show. This is very persuasive.

2009 Château Haut-Bages-Libéral, Cru Classé Pauillac
£294 per case of 12 bottles in bond
Perfumed on the nose, this has attractive notes of dark berry fruits. On the palate, this has a layered texture, with good density to the rich, dark fruit character. The tannins are fine and ripe, giving an appealing layered texture to this impressive Haut-Bages-Liberal.
Drinking: 2015-2025
