Bordeaux 2009 Latest Releases – Charmail and Maucaillou

We are pleased to offer two Left Bank wines that show great style and substance, as well as very reasonable prices.

Château Charmail has long been a Lay & Wheeler favourite and, with its classic structure and appealing, ripe nature, it did not disappoint in this vintage.  Château Maucaillou is new to our Bordeaux portfolio, but we were so impressed when we tasted that we felt this was impossible to pass up. While both these wines could be stored for a few years before consumption, they will also be extremely approachable in their youth and will make excellent value drinking wines in the shorter term. They are a must-buy for anyone seeking to sample the quality of this vintage without having to wait for years to do so.

2009 Château Charmail, Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc
£135 per case of 12 bottles in bond

Almost exotic on the nose, with plenty of cassis, lead pencil and spice. Classic in style, with the ripe fruit nature kept nicely in check by a fine framework of tannin and acidity. While approachable in youth, this will give so much more with a little time in the bottle.

Drinking: 2014-2022

2009 Château Maucaillou, Cru Bourgeois Moulis
£156 per case of 12 bottles in bond

This has an inviting nose of almost-crystalline red fruit, with an earthy, black truffle-like, mineral backdrop. On the palate, this shows great ripeness and harmony at this early stage, as well as a long, refreshing finish. Assured and elegant, an excellent example of how good the 2009 vintage can be.

Drinking: 2015-2022
