2009 Château Batailley – New Release

Château Batailley has just released and at a price that can only be considered remarkably fair in the context of this vintage. Wine critic Robert Parker is not alone in championing Batailley ’09, nor in drawing comparisons to the impressive 2005 vintage.  This is a very strong showing from this underrated Pauillac Fifth Growth – at such a keen release price, it is well worth a case or two.

2009 Château Batailley, Cru Classé Pauillac
£264 per 12 bottle case in bond
On the nose, a lifted, floral edge lends appeal to dark berry fruit. A more concentrated Batailley than the norm, this vintage offers good, solid berry fruit, soft-skinned and fully ripe. Not lacking in substance, with a pleasing vibrant accent and well-expressed tannin. A successful, persistent Batailley in a classic style.  Drinking: 2015-2025

(Scored 90-92 points in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate #188)
