A new week begins – Château Gazin releases

The start of the new week is heralded by the release of this delicious Pomerol. Château Gazin has always enjoyed a good reputation and for good reason – its vineyards lie on the famed Pomerol clay/gravel plateau, in close proximity to those of Pétrus. 2009 represents a true success for the Château – a rich, intense Pomerol, which stood out to us at the UGC tastings. This is a wine that will demand patient cellarage to deliver on its undoubted potential.

 2009 Château Gazin, Pomerol
£275 per 6 bottle case in bond
Gazin’s vineyards are superbly situated, adjacent to Pétrus. Interesting on the nose, with notes of woodsmoke, concentrated black fruit and grilled herbs. Mouthfilling, with almost sugar-coated tannins, intense blueberry fruit and a long, dark chocolate finish. Was excellent last year, but this is bigger-boned and should be better in time.   Drinking: 2015-2025

(Scored 94-96 points in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 188)
